FSC® Certificate at Forest Gorlice: Sustainable Wood Production. Why Does Forest Gorlice Choose FSC®?

Certyfikat FSC w Forest Gorlice

Consumers and business partners around the world are increasingly asking not just about price or product design, but above all about its origin. At Forest Gorlice, we fully understand these needs and the validity of such questions. That’s why we have spent years proving that modern furniture component production can go hand in hand with a deep respect for the natural environment.

The foundation of this philosophy – and the proof of its careful implementation – is our FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certificate.

FSC®-Certified Wood – Where It Comes From and How We Select Our Raw Material

Every great product has its beginning deep in the heart of nature. For us, that beginning is the rustle of Polish forests, from which we draw what is most precious – noble, natural raw material. But we do not take from nature carelessly or without respect. At Forest Gorlice, we believe that taking from nature places a great debt of gratitude upon us – a debt we repay through responsible action. That is why the FSC® certificate is the very foundation of our work.

What exactly is FSC? The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is an international non-profit organization that created the first and currently the most globally recognized certification system for forests and wood and paper products. Its mission is to promote responsible management of the world’s forest resources. The FSC® standard is built on 10 core principles that guarantee forest management protects natural ecosystems, cares for rare animal and plant species, prohibits the use of hazardous chemicals, and unconditionally respects the rights of forest workers and local communities.

When you choose our products, you can be completely confident that every single one is backed by a legal source and a commitment to the biological balance of our planet. Beyond that, we act locally – we source timber from forests no more than 70 km from our facility. Why? This short distance means we minimize transportation, keeping our carbon footprint and exhaust emissions as low as possible.

But the process doesn’t stop there. Once the raw material arrives at our factory, every batch goes through an optimized selection process. Our specialists ensure that every plank and every section of a log is fully utilized. We keep waste to an absolute minimum, proving that modern industry can live in perfect harmony with nature.

Forest Gorlice's sustainable furniture component production process

What Does FSC® Wood Production Look Like? The Entire Process Under One Roof

Our commitment to the environment doesn’t end with responsible sourcing. At Forest Gorlice, we have built a unique production ecosystem whose strength lies in complete independence. Across an impressive area of over 8 hectares, our modern facility buzzes with activity – every stage of processing happens under one roof. From a raw, forest-scented log in the sawmill to a precisely finished component in the assembly hall – the entire process takes place in one location.

This means we not only control every quality detail, no matter how small, but also completely eliminate unnecessary inter-facility transport – saving tonnes of exhaust emissions.

Eco-Friendly Wood Production – Technologies and Solutions at Forest Gorlice

In our day-to-day work, we rely on modern technologies that allow us to genuinely reduce the environmental impact of production:

What the FSC® Certificate means - forest protection, workers' rights, sustainable production, and supply chain control.

  • Water-Based Lacquers. We have completely moved away from aggressive chemicals. All lacquers used in our facility are water-based. They are safe for our workers and the environment, while still delivering the highest-quality surface finish.
  • Central Dust Extraction System with Heat Recovery. We keep the air clean – both inside our halls and around our facility. Our modern dust extraction system and advanced filtering stations feature heat recovery, with that heat being fed back into the production process.
  • Energy-Efficient Motors with Inverters. Our machines are not outdated, energy-hungry relics. Our equipment is fitted with modern inverter-driven motors. This means machines intelligently adjust their energy consumption to match the current workload, eliminating unnecessary idle running.
  • Less Plastic in Logistics. At Forest Gorlice, we know that safe packaging doesn’t have to mean generating plastic waste. We proved this back in 2022, when we cut our use of foam packaging by over 60%, replacing it with eco-friendly paper.

Circular Economy in Wood Production – How It Works in Practice

At Forest Gorlice, we strive for maximum energy self-sufficiency and zero emissions. Part of our electricity needs are met by our own photovoltaic installations with a combined capacity of over 150 kW, and the remaining energy comes from certified renewable sources under our “GREEN ENERGY” supply.

We also set a strong example when it comes to circular economy principles:

  1. Heating from biomass: We heat our office spaces, production halls, and drying chambers using energy generated by burning wood biomass that comes directly from our own production waste. This entire process takes place in a modern, fully automated boiler room with a maximum output of 3.5 MW, located on-site.
  2. Wood pellets from remaining waste: From the remaining production waste, we manufacture high-quality wood briquettes made from 100% pure wood waste – with no glue or chemical binders of any kind.
  3. Clean transport on-site: For all internal transport within our facility, we use only LPG-powered or clean battery-powered forklifts.
  4. Full waste segregation: All waste generated during the production process is 100% sorted and handed over to professional recycling facilities.

People – Ecology Created by Humans

The FSC® certificate and our high environmental standards mean far more to us than paperwork or boxes ticked. At Forest Gorlice, we know that no technology – however advanced – will work without the right people. It’s no surprise, then, that our team is not made up of random individuals. We are a community of professionals for whom ecology and respect for nature are simply close to their hearts.

In practice, this commitment is visible every step of the way:

  • Planting forests with our own hands. Our team doesn’t limit itself to work within the factory walls. Employees regularly and entirely voluntarily take part in forest restoration initiatives, physically planting young trees in areas designated for reforestation.
  • FSC® education and procedural awareness. We continually raise the bar when it comes to knowledge and expertise. We run regular internal training sessions on responsible sourcing and the trade of raw materials – ensuring everyone on the team fully understands and can implement the strict procedures of the FSC® system.
  • Supporting green initiatives. As a company, we consciously and fully responsibly support Polish pro-environmental initiatives focused on responsible forest management and the protection of our native natural resources.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does the FSC® certificate mean?

The FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) certificate means that the timber has been sourced responsibly and sustainably. It confirms that forest management in a given area protects natural ecosystems, supports biodiversity, prohibits hazardous chemicals, and respects the rights of local communities and forest workers.

2. Are FSC®-certified products more eco-friendly?

Yes – FSC®-certified products are more eco-friendly because the entire production process is subject to strict environmental oversight. Certification ensures that timber harvesting does not lead to destructive deforestation or forest degradation, and that production minimizes its negative impact on the climate and local wildlife.

3. How can I verify that a product has the FSC® certificate?

To verify the authenticity of a certificate, check the manufacturer’s unique licence number in the official, publicly accessible database on the Forest Stewardship Council’s website. Legitimate wood component suppliers always provide their certificate number, allowing business partners to quickly confirm the legality and origin of the entire supply chain.
